January 6th, 2021… An unprecedented day in American history. Do you remember where you were, or what you were doing? Did you wonder about the agency communicators responding to this crisis and what they were experiencing? We are fortunate to have a TAMIO member who lived this experience first-hand and has agreed to share his observations of the day’s events. Dustin Sternbeck, Chief Communications Officer for the City of Denton, served on the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Executive Staff as their Chief Communications Officer during the events of January 6th. Dustin will walk through the timeline of events on January 6th from the MPD Emergency Operations Center point of view, what his team observed, and how they responded. His unique perspective on law enforcement and communications teams working together to manage and mitigate a crisis of unprecedented scale will provide attendees with valuable insight and practical takeaways that apply to everyone involved in emergency communications.

April 2026 - Streaming with Purpose: How Pearland and Baytown Drive Engagement Through Live Digital Production
Pearland and Baytown have made significant strides in strengthening public communication and digital outreach. Live streaming has become a powerful tool for informing residents, promoting transparency, and showcasing the work happening across the community. This webinar uses a clear three pillar framework to break down the value and practical steps behind effective live production: 1. Why We Do It Understand how live streaming supports strategic goals. We’ll highlight the role of live streaming in Council meetings, community events, project updates, and real time communication during weather related or emergency situations. 2. When We Do It (and When We Don’t) Some resident experiences work well for live streaming; others are better handled offline. We’ll outline how to decide when to broadcast and how to balance staff resources with public expectations. 3. How We Do It Explore the technical backbone of Baytown and Pearland’s approach — from simple, reliable streaming setups to full production workflows. Topics include technical suggestions and steps to get started. Designed for communities of all sizes, this session provides actionable guidance to deliver consistent, resident focused digital experiences.
